The most fragrant and freshest fruits gathered from around New England are the basis for the intense taste that makes the jams truly remarkable. And to ensure that each jam reflects the true flavor of the fruit, Bonnie uses no pectin and half the sugar of commercial jams.

Our pasture-raised beef and lamb come from Brimfield, Mass., our organic milk and cheeses from small dairies in New Hampshire and Vermont, and during the growing season, almost all of the café's produce comes from small Massachusetts farms. During the growing season, it is not unusual to find produce on our menu that was picked that very morning, much of which we also "put up" to carry us through the winter doldrums. The café may be the only restaurant in the city to serve house-dried heirloom tomatoes, and we frequently smoke hams and bacon or cure pancetta from a family farm in Vermont.

The Independent is a casual, comfortable neighborhood restaurant and pub located in the heart of Union Square. Our seasonally influenced dinner menu is offered at either of our two bars as well as in the dining room. The kitchen prepares all of their cuisine with simple, classic preparation, using local, sustainable and fresh ingredients. Fresh, local seafood specials are offered daily. The drink menu at The Independent features both standards and new trends.
